What MinnPost has accomplished in 2021

MinnPost has been up to a lot this year. Looking back, I’m amazed by the work my colleagues have done to make Minnesota a better, more informed place. I thought I’d share some of the highlights:

📰 We published over 1,100 pieces of original journalism covering a wide range of issues important to Minnesotans: government, health, elections, environment, arts & culture, education and more. And we provided all of this reporting for free — no paywall, no paid subscriptions.

💉 We updated our COVID-19 data dashboard five days a week, every week, keeping Minnesotans apprised of the latest coronavirus data and trends in our state.

🗣 We published 400 opinion pieces from diverse voices within our community, giving space for thoughtful and engaged commentary.

💻 We hosted ten virtual events, including the inaugural MinnPost Festival, which brought together local and national thought leaders in a series of engaging and inspiring sessions. All of these events had free ticket options available to ensure accessibility for all.

🖊 We had 16 people on our staff working hard to bring you these stories and events, including six full-time reporters and three editors, plus countless freelance and contract reporters who provided additional coverage.

📍 We had donors from 69 of Minnesota’s 87 counties, showing just how vital our reporting is to a statewide audience. (And donors from 43 states plus Washington, D.C.!)

💖 And so far this year, we’ve received donations from 5,187 donors who’ve made all of this work possible!

We’ve had quite a year covering civic and cultural life in Minnesota and making sure readers understand how important issues affect their everyday lives. This work would not have been possible without generous reader support.

We’re looking to raise $95,000 by December 31 to ensure we can continue this essential work in the year ahead. Donations from readers like you are critical to powering our nonprofit newsroom. Will you make a tax-deductible gift right now to support our public service journalism in 2022?

Thank you so much to everyone who’s already donated during our year-end member drive and throughout the year to make this work possible! When readers donate to MinnPost, we ask them what inspired them to do so. Here are a few recent responses:

“MinnPost’s writing is very good, the maps and graphics make things easier to understand and MinnPost often has articles about things I’m interested that I don’t find elsewhere.” — Rom, Minneapolis

“I am grateful for MinnPost as one of my sources of independent news.” — JoAnn, St. Paul

“Independent journalism not beholden to special interests.” — Anonymous donor, Woodbury

“I like the news that is more focused at the state level. Also, I think MinnPost is conscious to do reporting that isn’t that common hourly news cycle story that appears on every local news website.” — Rodney, Blaine
